OU v. Airforce

We took John to his first football game last weekend. It was AMAZING!

We ended up going down on Friday and got to walk around campus before it got dark and take a couple of pictures. (I took my small camera so that I could take it into the game, so I didn't get the best pictures, but they will do).

We stayed at the Sooner Legends hotel and it was great. Although it was old, it was cool to see all the memoriable that they had on display. We stayed in the barry Switzer suite, so we have now seen every picture of Barry ever taken on the field. In the morning we were able to have breakfast next to Joe Washington and a couple of other 1975 champioship players. That was pretty cool.

On gameday we took John to the Natural History Museum there on campus and he loved the dinosaurs and other exhibits.

After which we laid him down for a nap for about an hour, just to try and help the long day ahead of us. Carl and I were getting restless, so we woke him up and off we went.

John was super excited to be at OU and to go to the game and see Boomer and Sooner. First we met up with Granddaddy and then walked over with him to our seats. Carl found us seats on the goal line on the first row! Was not the best seat to actually watch the game, but it seriously could not have been better for a kid. We were right in front of the cheerleaders and all the action. We were able to stand John up on the wall so he cuold see and we did not have to hold him the whole time.

He got to see and give high 5's to both the Boomer and Sooner mascots and then the rough necks gave him an empty shotgun shell for a souviner. There was a fly over becuase it was the airforce game. Those planes were REALLY loud, so John covered his ears for most of the game. The cheerleaders LOVED him, in fact a couple of them got off beat or whatever becuase they were watching him. After the game was over they all swormed him. He was being a ham and did his "OU" arm signals for them.

Overall it was an awesome day and I can not wait to do it again!

First time fisherman

We got up early on Saturday morning and headed to East Texas with Nana and Da to take John on his first fishing trip. We went to Gary Yamamoto's ranch (www.innatbkranch.com)in Palestine, Texas. It was beautiful and a really cool experience.

There were 8 lakes to choose from, including 1 really large lake. Carl had some inside scoop from some friends that had been earlier and told us which lake was the best. So we pulled off the main road and onto some dirt roads filled with cows! John loved this, although he was a bit concerned that we were driving in the grass ("go in the grass?! go in the grass?!:). When we got close to the cows John would scream out the window "moo cows moo", he thought they were moving because he was talking to them.

No time wasted, we pull into the field and started fishing. John listened really well and did not seem to be tempted to get in the water which was my fear. John had his own fishing pole. One of us cast it and then he would hold it and reel in the worms. He was loving life! He actually caught some fish on his pole, and with some help would bring them in. He loved to touch them and then give them a kiss and put them back in the water. The rest of us had some good luck too (Da caught the first fish, but I caught the biggest!).

There were cows sharing the lake and surrounding pasture with us and this was John's other favorite thing about the day. He would try to get up close and of course they would run away. He was "chasing the cows".

After a picnic lunch we are did some more fishing, but John was wearing down a bit. Him and Nana built a tent out of the picnic blankets and chairs. They had fun in their pretend world of orca whales and dolphins and alligators, etc., etc. Great imagination!

We headed home around 2:30, but I think we could have all stayed all day long. It was a really good time and I can not wait to do it again!

Here are some pictures from the day:

2nd first word

I am not sure what to consider his first word....

When he started making noises that resembled words, I think we would say his first word was "dog"; although it was missing the clear "g" sound.

Now that the words are becoming more clear and less interpretation needed, his first super clear word is "book". He says it clear as day with a little accent on the "k". So cute.

So I am calling "book" his 2nd first word.

John's first "hair cut"

John's hair is long in some places but still filling in on top of his head, so I was putting off the hair cut a long as I could. Well, it seems I gave in. He had a few pieces of hair hanging in his eyes, quite a bit of hair over his ears (Daddy's pet peeve) and the back was starting to resemble a mullet again..so off we went...

Carl said I scared the lady and she did not want to cut it, so she just trimmed a little bit here and there and just charged us for a bang trim! It does not even look like he got a hair cut! I am not sure how to tell them what I want, because I am not sure what I want his hair to look like just yet. I think we should wait until it fills in more and see what it does naturally before giving it a "style". Apparently I am getting my way. :)

Nonetheless, John did great, they had all sorts of distractions and Daddy held a sucker in his mouth (first time) and he was pretty content. It only took all of 2 minutes for our "hair cut".

See pics below.

So techinically we are a week early, but who is counting? We have opened up a whole new world for John and hopefully made car rides less painful for Mom!

My First Cold

Mom and I caught a cold this past weekend. We both feel pretty crummy, but we think we are on the upside. We have our fingers crossed that we did not give it to Daddy. Here is a pitiful picture of me...

FIRST TOOTH

Well, I have been working on the format for the blog for a few days; it is not quite right just yet, but I had to publish it today to share the news.... HE GOT HIS FIRST TOOTH! He has been a bit moody the last couple of days, but nothing terrible by any means, so we are crossing our fingers that his teething pain will be mild.

On another note, he has slept through the night (8:00pm to 7:30am) the last four nights in a row - Here's hoping it sticks....
